what does epsilon mean? it is used in the Formal Definintion of Limit:

L is the limit of f(x) as x approaches c

if and only if

for any positive number epsilon, no matter how small….etc.

  1.    Mrs. Evrard Says:

epsilon is basicly how close you want to be to the limit. Think of it as a very small error that you are willing to accept. In the definition, this means that no matter how small you want the error to be, if you can find a delta around x=c that guarantees that you are within epsilon ( the error) of L then L is the limit of f(x) as x->c
